The Catalyst Newsletter

Your Christmas feelings are valid (even if they are complicated)...

A weekly e-newsletter to help you reach your potential and make a difference in the world.

There's room for both joy and sadness at the Christmas table.

For some, Christmas can be a sad and difficult time. Maybe you've lost someone special. Your kids have grown and moved away. Things just aren't like they used to be. Or maybe you've never liked Christmas at all. That's okay. I want to acknowledge that.

For those who love Christmas, this is a joyous time of year filled with family, faith, and fun. That’s okay, too. I'm one of those who tries to focus on faith and avoid the holiday frenzy by observing Advent. I also find joy in family and cherish traditions like Christmas trees, movies, lights, and candles to drive away the smothering darkness.

And then there are those in the middle—who feel somewhat ambivalent toward the holidays. You appreciate the time off and enjoy certain aspects, but you find all the fuss confusing and disorienting.

Wherever you are on the Christmas spectrum, your feelings are valid. You don't need to justify them or force yourself to feel differently.

I'm just grateful you're part of the Catalyst community. So, take this for what it's worth, knowing it comes from the bottom of my heart:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
