Catalyzing high achievers (aka over achievers) to reach their potential and make a difference in the world...without losing their soul.
When was the last time you felt truly alive?

Thank you for your response to last week's question about relational health. Your insights are already helping shape what I believe will be a powerful assessment tool.
This week, I'm exploring the EMOTIONAL dimension of burnout.
Which ONE of these statements resonates with you the most right now?
"I can name what I’m feeling and clearly communicate it."
"I feel emotionally overwhelmed more often than not."
"I regularly make time for things that bring me joy and fun."
"I challenge myself mentally (i.e. learning, reading, new ideas)..."
Your feedback is helping shape an assessment tool that goes beyond the typical "you're burned out, get more sleep" advice (which we all know isn't enough). Let's be honest—shallow advice like 'just get more sleep' has never solved a true burnout crisis.
I remember one challenging season in leadership when there was a prolonged conflict with a key team member of the organization I led. After it was finally resolved almost a year later, I felt emotionally numb and couldn’t figure out how to replenish my tank.
Skiing with some friends in 2017
That’s when I realized that fun and hobbies can do that! Life and joy returned when I began intentionally scheduling a fun activity (usually skiing or golf, depending on the time of year) at least once a month, and I picked up a hobby of refinishing old furniture. During that season, I think I refinished nearly every piece of wood furniture in our house!
An old credenza I found on the street and refinished
I'm learning that burnout shows up in different ways for different people. For me, emotional overwhelm is an early sign – before the physical exhaustion, before the cynicism takes hold. It's like my personal check engine light. Ignoring your emotional warning signs is like ignoring the check engine light in your car. I'd be curious to hear if that's been your experience too?
This is all confidential, and there's no right or wrong answer.
P.S. I'm working on this assessment as part of a framework I call Rhythms of R.E.S.T. – Relational, Emotional, Spiritual, and Tangible. If you're interested in hearing more about it when it's ready, just reply with "keep me posted."
P.P.S - Whenever you're ready, there are three ways I can help you...
