The 24-Hour Reset That Transformed My Coaching Client's Life

As I look at the faces of high achievers wherever I go—CEOs, entrepreneurs, community pillars—I can’t help but wonder: When was the last time you truly unplugged?

The Revolutionary Act of Rest

In our “always on” world, establishing a regular day of complete rest isn't just wise—it's revolutionary. Whether you call it a day of rest or Sabbath like our Jewish friends, this ancient practice has modern power.

One business owner I recently coached was working 80-100 hours weekly until implementing a weekly rest day. He came to me frustrated, burned out, and frayed around the edges. Now? He's working just 2-4 hours daily with greater impact. Crazy, right?

What changed? Alignment with natural rhythms.

The Rest Framework

A dedicated rest day is where we STOP right in the middle of chaos to:

  1. Physically recharge - Activities that replenish your body
  2. Mentally reset - Clear your mind of work concerns
  3. Rediscover delight - Do things you genuinely enjoy

Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel wisely said, "If you work with your mind, sabbath with your hands. If you work with your hands, sabbath with your mind."

Your Rest Challenge

This weekend, I challenge you to carve out at least 4 hours of complete rest. That means:

  • No email checking
  • No productivity tasks
  • No "just one quick work thing"

Instead, ask yourself: What activity would constitute true rest for me?

For some, it's a hike in nature. For others, it's reading fiction by the fireplace. Maybe it's an unrushed meal with loved ones or playing an instrument.

What would happen if you and your family shut down for a full 24 hours each week—from sundown one day to sunset the next day? The benefits extend far beyond mere recovery—they transform how you show up as a leader, partner, and human being.
